Abstract
Cette etude realisee par Statistique Canada, porte sur l'alphabetisme et les competences des adultes des minorites francophones dans les provinces canadiennes anglaises, et des minorites anglophones dans la province du Quebec. L'etude s'appuie sur les donnees de l'Enquete internationale sur l'alphabetisation et les competences des adultes (EIACA), de 2003. L'auteur a adopte la perspective suivante : la necessite de considerer les capacites de lecture et d'ecriture en relation avec les contextes linguistique, culturel, economique et social dans lesquels vivent les individus. Les resultats de l'etude autorisent l'auteur a conclure sur l'important defi que represente le developpement et le maintien de l'eveil a l'ecrit en francais pour la survie des communautes francophones en situation minoritaire.
