Le problème de la succession du chef d'entreprise prend un relief particulier dans les petites et moyennes entreprises. Il recouvre en effet toute la question de la formation professionnelle et de l'épanouissement personnel des futurs chefs d'entreprise; il inclut la question de la collaboration et de l'opposition entre chefs d'entreprise de générations différentes et pose, avec dix ans d'avance, tout le problème de l'avenir de l'entreprise. On peut donc, en conséquence, considérer ce vaste problème comme la jonction de plusieurs routes, comme la synthèse de beaucoup de problèmes divergents. Mais ce n'est pas à ce caractère composite que le problèmede la succession dans les petites et moyennes entreprisesdoit son principal intérêt; il le doit à sa nouveauté,car, jusqu'à présent, ce problème n'a pas été étudié, sinontrès peu et en tout cas jamais systématiquement. On ne sepose en général la question que lorsqu'il est trop tard pourla résoudre efficacement et judicieusement. C'est à causede cette négligence que tant de petites et moyennes entreprisesressemblent si fort à des organismes sous-dévéloppéset sous-alimentés.
