Abstract
O ponto de inflexão do multiculturalismo é a democracia. O resultado prático está nas políticas públicas inclusivas das minorias. O multiculturalismo é um conceito complexo em ambiguidades e polissemias. O objetivo deste artigo é apreciar teoricamente o fenômeno do multiculturalismo adensado no reconhecimento da diversidade étnica e cultural tendo como recorte a multiculturalidade brasileira. Como o direito à diferença, enquanto expressão de igualdade e dignidade é tensionado no Brasil? Essa questão é o elemento movente da discussão. A metodologia do estudo foi exploratória do conceito de multiculturalismo e da questão multicultural. Essa escolha orientou a bibliografia. A coleta dos textos utilizou um “motor de pesquisa” da base de dados ERIC a partir dos principais descritores. Foi consultado também o “motor de busca” Atrium da Universidade de Montréal, CA. Para uma exploração mais genérica do objeto foi consultado o Google Scholar. Outra parte das fontes bibliográficas foi levantada a partir da biblioteca privada do autor. O texto está organizado em quatro seções: aproximações breves ao conceito de multiculturalismo; multiculturalismo: diversidade e diferença como manifestação de dignidade; a democracia pluralista: o lugar do multiculturalismo como (des)centralidade política; tensões na diversidade étnica e cultural brasileira: considerações para o multiculturalismo.
