Exploring the work experiences of gay male Asian immigrants in the Manitoba workforce

Abstract
While a number of scholars have reported work experiences of white gay men and white lesbian women in North American context, those of gay and lesbian people of colour are still underrepresented in the literature. Meanwhile, there has been an increase in immigration to Canada, especially from Asian countries such as the Philippines, India, and China over the last decade. In reaction to the dearth of the research literature and the current influx of immigrants from Asian countries, this study examines the work experiences of male gay Asian immigrants in the Manitoba workforce in terms of race, gender, and sexuality. At the time of the submission of this proposal, the current study has not been begun yet. However, I will be able to present its preliminary findings at the time of the conference. For the educational importance of the study, a suggestion based on potential research outcomes may be made for human resource development (HRD) and/or diversity training program in a corporate setting that a gay Asian perspective should be incorporated for the creation of a better workplace environment for gay Asian immigrants.
