Abstract
La loi d’Ancien Régime suppose que la femme peut toujours résister aux tentatives de viol ; la littérature de fiction suggère le contraire ; l’examen d’un corpus de nouvelles et de contes principalement (de Cervantès à Aulnoy, Murat, Perrault, Tencin) montre que l’homme est prêt à profiter de toute situation de faiblesse de la femme pour se contenter, et que la victime peut remédier à cette défaillance en obtenant le mariage : elle rétablit un lien humain déchiré par la brutalité de l’appétit.
