Toward a practical storage-based control scheme for transient stability applications

Abstract
In this work we aim to build a framework for distributed cyber-physical control for transient stability. We specifically explore solutions to practical issues that limit the performance of energy storage system (ESS)-based control schemes. For example, we propose solutions to the situations of an ESS with a small inject/absorb capacity, a generator bus without an associated ESS, a measurement that is absent or severely delayed, a measurement that is severely corrupted, and a distributed controller without an associated sensor. The performance of the proposed cyber-physical control scheme is evaluated on the IEEE 68-bus test power system. Numerical results demonstrate the merits and enhanced performance of the proposed controller.
