Abstract
The novel diet triangle advertised by the Flemish Institute Healthy Life does not mention trans fatty acids although the latter are a proven risk factor for coronary heart disease. Many years ago already the federal High Health Council did warn against trans FA. In Canada, Norway, the USA a.o. countries the label of prepared foods mentions the presence or absence of trans FA, but not in Belgium. In the published version of the letter the newspaper omitted several sentences, such as the industrial origin of most trans FA and their presence in margarines. After publication I added a paragraph on plant sterols.
