Investigamos como a biologia e algumas de suas subAireas foram apresentadas em jornais brasileiros no perAodo de 1850 a 1980. Em seguida, analisamos a cobertura feita por trAas jornais diAirios de grande circulaA§A£o na entA£o capital do paAs, Rio de Janeiro, nas dA©cadas de 1870 ( O Globo ), 1900 ( O Paiz ) e 1930 ( Jornal do Brasil ), perAodo importante para a consolidaA§A£o da biologia no paAs. Observamos que a biologia adquiriu presenA§a expressiva nos jornais a partir da dA©cada de 1870, associada ao contexto de amplas discussAµes cientAficas, polAticas e filosA³ficas. Nas dA©cadas seguintes, sua presenA§a seguiu em ascensA£o, mas, agora, de forma relacionada aos aspectos prAiticos e utilitaristas de seus conhecimentos.
