Abstract
Cet article a pour objet le film Die Nibelungen de Fritz Lang (Allemagne, 1924). Nous présenterons les sources artistiques et historiques utilisées par Fritz Lang et nous montrerons comment le mythe, la légende et l’histoire interagissent dans le film grâce au dispositif de mise en abyme. Nous analyserons ensuite les processus de dévoiement effectués sur le film par le pouvoir nazi et nous expliquerons comment cette version s'est inscrite dans l’Histoire. Nous conclurons notre propos en présentant les travaux des archivistes et des historiens qui, après avoir restauré et reconstitué le film dans sa version de 1924, ont réhabilité l’oeuvre de Fritz Lang et ouvert de nouvelles perspectives d'interprétation.
