Abstract
Cet article évalue la contribution d’animateurs radiophoniques à la définition du statut de la littérature et à la perception de l’histoire canadienne-française au Manitoba. Nous commençons par un survol historique de la radio à l’Université du Manitoba et de la participation de membres du Département de français à sa programmation des années 1920 et 1930. Nous analysons ensuite des causeries littéraires et historico-culturelles animées par des membres du Département de français, du Collège de Saint-Boniface et de la population franco-manitobaine dans les années 1940 au cours de l’émission University on the Air de l’Université du Manitoba. Quoique les animateurs universitaires et communautaires contribuent peu à l’autonomisation de la littérature canadienne-française, ils valorisent l’histoire et la culture canadiennes-françaises de l’Ouest canadien, grâce à des institutions comme la Société historique de Saint-Boniface. Notre conclusion souligne ce qui fait l’originalité des causeries étudiées, notamment le support radiophonique, la collaboration communautaire et la présence pendant une dizaine d’années de la langue française à la radio anglophone pendant une période pourtant pas encore favorable à l’éducation en français au Manitoba.
