Abstract
Le texte qui suit interroge le rapport entre cinéma, mythe et histoire. En nous penchant sur l’exemple de The New World (Terrence Malick), nous mettons de l’avant l’idée qu’un certain cinéma, en reposant sur une « méthodologie » qui lui est propre, peut constituer un mode à part entière d’expression de l’histoire, au même titre que l’histoire disciplinaire conventionnellement écrite. Nous avançons également l’idée que la mobilisation de certains mythes peut s’avérer judicieuse lorsqu’il s’agit de présenter une histoire que la discipline historique scientifiquement constituée peine à saisir.
