Abstract
Par rapport à la thématique de la frontière, l’Ancien Testament repense la notion d’appartenance territoriale. La représentation du « pays promis », si souvent situé entre Jourdain et Méditerranée, n’a guère de soutien scripturaire dans le Pentateuque. Plusieurs récits, au contraire, déterritorialisent la notion de « terre promise ». Elle se place aussi bien en pays transjordanien, philistin, égyptien, que madianite ou israélite. Pour les derniers éditeurs du Pentateuque, la « terre promise », qui va de la Mésopotamie à l’Égypte (Gn 15), est l’occasion de dire la « dette » d’Israël à l’égard de ses voisins, de ses parentés étrangères, tout en assumant le bien-fondé des frontières pour vivre des identités différentes.
