Abstract
Le XVIII e siècle marque le début de la construction des nations modernes. C’est à ce moment que les lettrés des quatre coins de l’Europe se sont mis à construire des passés pour ces nations. Les nouveaux panthéons nationaux se remplissent vite d’ancêtres glorieux choisis parmi les tribus de l’Antiquité et du Moyen Âge, mais aussi d’ennemis cruels auxquels ils ont dû faire face. La présente étude examine la place attribuée aux anciennes tribus slaves dans l’histoire de la nation roumaine par les lettrés roumains à partir du XVII e siècle et jusqu’au début du XX e siècle. Nous exposons comment les enjeux politiques et culturels de la société roumaine, les profils personnels (l’origine, la prédilection pour certains courants de pensée, etc.) de ceux qui ont contribué à la rédaction de l’histoire nationale roumaine, ainsi que la professionnalisation de l’historiographie sous l’égide du paradigme positiviste ont déterminé la façon dont les lettrés roumains ont traité ces tribus.
