A low-profile dual-band GPS circular patch antenna is developed utilizing integrated metamaterial-(MTM-) based EBGs. The MTM-EBG utilizes a previously introduced uniplanar topology for parallel-plate mode suppression. The simulated antenna operates within the GPS L1 and L2 bands and exhibits wide impedance bandwidths and moderate gains. Moreover, the antenna can be simply fabricated with a standard PCB process and utilizes only a single layer of RT-5880 substrate.
