La convention de l’Unesco protégeant les patrimoines culturels immatériels introduit un jeu d’équilibre inédit entre les chercheurs et les populations qui, de simples objets d’étude ou public potentiel, deviennent des acteurs majeurs. La Fédération des écomusées et musées de société (FEMS) a donc voulu montrer comment les musées de société qui travaillent depuis toujours sur ces questions d’expressions vivantes, de mémoire et de transmission se sont saisis d’un nouvel outil de protection. Dans ce cadre, elle a missionné les photographes Jean-Christophe Bardot et Olivier Pasquiers pour réaliser des reportages sur les thématiques proposées par les membres du réseau. Au-delà du caractère documentaire du projet, cette commande vise à réintroduire une lecture sensible et distanciée, qui n’est ni complètement le discours du musée ni complètement celui des communautés. Une troisième voie en quelque sorte, où les différents points de vue sur le patrimoine culturel immatériel pourraient se rencontrer.
