Abstract
Construite sur une séparation entre la vie publique et la vie privée, la politique moderne a façonné l'espace public comme un lieu de transition entre les deux sphères. À la première, les discussions sur les grands enjeux économiques et sociaux ; à la seconde, les conversations intimes sur les émotions et la quotidienneté. Toutefois, selon certains, le dialogue guidé par l'esprit public se serait désormais évaporé. Dans cette chronique, Caroline Patsias revêt des habits d'ethnologue et explore les questions soulevées au cours de ses enquêtes auprès de groupes de citoyens en France et au Québec. Comment ces derniers, soucieux d'améliorer la vie de leur quartier, se politisent-ils ou, au contraire, évitent-ils le politique ? Comment nouent-ils des relations avec leurs institutions ? Comment parlent-ils politiquement de la vie en commun et où le font-ils ? Pour répondre à ces questions, l'auteure a prêté une oreille attentive tant aux propos tenus en public qu'à ceux tenus en privé de citoyens « ordinaires » et de leurs dirigeants. Elle livre ici le fruit de ses réflexions qui intéresseront tous les gens attachés à comprendre les transformations de la démocratie.
