Abstract
La recherche sur les relations entre l’Église catholique et l’État québécois à l’époque de Maurice Duplessis est, à ce jour, encore embryonnaire. Maintes perceptions contemporaines ont été élevées au rang de réalités historiques sans que des recherches aient d’abord été menées. À défaut d’avoir accès aux sources, nous avons accepté les récits contestés de Robert Rumilly et de Conrad Black lorsqu’ils présentaient une certaine vision de la réalité conforme à nos préjugés. C’est notamment le cas en ce qui concerne l’opposition du clergé à Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, son soutien à Maurice Duplessis et l’entente supposée entre l’Union nationale et l’épiscopat. Le présent article vise à faire le bilan historiographique de cette question.
