Abstract
Résumé Cette recherche consiste en une analyse de la signification que les tribunaux canadiens ont donnée au terme multiculturalisme. L’objectif est double. D’abord, identifier le contexte de l’utilisation du terme et cerner la signification qui lui est accordée. Ensuite, contraster la compréhension du multiculturalisme par l’État fédéral avec celle à laquelle souscrivent implicitement les tribunaux. Bien que ces derniers recourent souvent aux principes du multiculturalisme, leur conception n’est pas univoque et son champ d’application s’est rapidement élargi, allant au-delà de ce qui avait été prévu au moment de l’adoption du terme en 1971.
