Quel est le poids de l’héritage culturel transmis par la famille et des expériences singulières sur le déroulement des parcours individuels dans l’enseignement supérieur québécois ? À partir d’une enquête qualitative réalisée auprès d’individus issus de familles fortement scolarisées, cet article a pour objectif de cerner les ressorts d’action de scolarités ponctuées d’interruptions d’études ou ayant échoué à reproduire le niveau scolaire familial. L’analyse compréhensive permet de dégager sept types de parcours où l’on distingue différents niveaux de modulation entre l’héritage culturel familial, les expériences scolaires et le vécu extrascolaire. Si les ressources familiales influencent la poursuite de la scolarité dans l’enseignement supérieur, cette analyse révèle que les hésitations et les choix scolaires réalisés par les enquêtés sont le plus souvent liés à des aspects de l’expérience vécue dans et hors de l’institution scolaire. Finalement, ces résultats soulignent des zones d’articulation entre les logiques d’individualisation et de reproduction sociale.
