Il s’agit d’interroger les significations intimes de la douleur chronique à travers une anthropologie de l’expérience. La douleur imprègne d’autant plus l’existence qu’elle est durable, inscrite dans la durée. L’individu finit par devenir l’intrus de sa propre existence, il est chassé de sa personne par une puissance négative qui s’est emparée de lui, et qui est d’autant plus destructrice qu’il échoue à s’en détourner, son pouvoir d’agir se dérobant à lui.
