Abstract
Entreprendre une approche phénoménologique de l’étranger, c’est s’engager dans le choix de décrire ce qui est indescriptible. Cette difficile saisie de l’étrangeté d’autrui s’explique par la difficulté de trouver des données figées dans l’espace et le temps pour caractériser celle-ci. Problème inhérent à l’humain en général, du fait que l’identité, c’est-à-dire ce qui singularise l’autre ou constitue sa spécificité, échappe à toute analyse. Elle est toujours en construction. L’altérité inaltérable de tout sujet est le non-synthétisable. D’où l’idée de procéder à un mode indirect de description phénoménologique afin de saisir dans l’étranger ce qui constitue son étrangeté ou son asymétrie irréductible. L’acceptation de cette dimension de liberté propre à l’étranger permet à l’autre ou au Moi de cohabiter avec lui. Quelle que soit la figure de l’étranger, le vivre ensemble est favorisé par l’élaboration d’une éthique de la rencontre qui incite à l’intégration de celui-ci avec son altérité ou sa transcendance et non le développement d’un communautarisme susceptible d’instaurer la rivalité entre les communautés.
