La qualitat de la llengua francesa al Quebec és un tema sensible i que està constantment d’actualitat a causa de la situació sociolingüística del francès a l’Amèrica del Nord. En aquest article, que tracta de la implementació d'una nova gramàtica a les escoles del Quebec (província francòfona del Canadà) per millorar el nivell de l’alumnat en el domini de la seva llengua, s’esbossen les dificultats inherents al sistema ortogràfic francès per explicar en quins aspectes l’ortografia requereix per part de l’escriptor el domini d’un bon nombre de nocions gramaticals simplement per dominar-la. A continuació, es defineixen les grans línies d'aquesta nova gramàtica i el que la distingeix de la gramàtica tradicional. En darrer terme, s’aborda la història del procés d’implementació de la renovació gramatical a l'escola, per mitjà de programes oficials però també a través de la seva implementació sobre el terreny, la qual cosa necessàriament condueix al problema de la formació del professorat de primària i secundària. Per últim, es presenten les possibles solucions sorgides de la recerca i alguns consells dirigits a les persones que s’interessen per la renovació pedagògica en l'ensenyament de la gramàtica.
