Abstract
La présente recherche porte sur les presbytères du Diocèse de Québec, dans la région pastorale urbaine anciennement appelée la cité de Québec. Ne pouvant être compris comme un bâtiment isolé, mais plutôt comme interagissant avec son environnement, le presbytère est traité en relation avec le noyau paroissial et la paroisse. Au total, 47 bâtiments, construits entre 1661 et 1988, constituent le corpus de l’étude.\n\nL’étude entreprise vise à comprendre ce type de bâtiment comme composante du paysage culturel québécois qui fait partie de l’institution catholique. Elle veut aussi amener des éléments nouveaux de réflexion sur la maison curiale. L’analyse permet par ailleurs de dégager que le presbytère, bien qu’il se rapproche de l’architecture domestique, emprunte également des éléments propres à l’architecture institutionnelle. À la fois habitation domestique, centre social et centre administratif, son rôle particulier d’habitation curiale le distingue de la maison ordinaire.\n
