Abstract Bellefleur et al. demonstrate that downhole seismic measurements over a massive sulfide orebody in New Brunswick, Canada, reveal prominent pure mode (P-P and S-S) and mode-converted waves (P-S and S-P) originating from the deposit. The scattered S-waves and mode-converted waves provide additional imaging capabilities that should be considered when selecting downhole seismic methods for mining exploration. Bohlen et al. record Scholte waves in a common-receiver gather generated by an air gun walking away from a single stationary ocean-bottom seismometer. The 2D shear-wave velocity structure of shallow-water marine sediments is inferred from the lateral variation of Scholte wave dispersion.
