L’efficacité thérapeutique est au coeur de l’anthropologie médicale qui s’intéresse aux diverses pratiques de guérison à travers le monde. Il s’agit ici de reprendre ce débat à partir d’une recherche de terrain conduite au sein des pratiques jamu à Yogyakarta (Jogja) à Java en Indonésie. La préparation et la consommation quotidienne de breuvages à bases de plantes, rhizomes, épices, écorces fraiches que l’on roule, presse, pile et liquéfie évoquent une efficacité thérapeutique située au niveau de l’expérience vécue. Nous emprunterons à la phénoménologie de la perception merleau-pontienne, à la pensée rhizomique deleuzo-guattarienne, ainsi qu’à la philosophie javanaise du corps qui permettent de comprendre cette efficacité thérapeutique comme ligne de fuite ou de déterritorialisation. Ce faisant, nous rappelons que l’efficacité thérapeutique réduite à des corrélations causales infra-phénoménales, tel que dans l’actuel standard scientifique de l’essai clinique randomisé (ECR), ne couvre pas de façon exhaustive l’expérience humaine du processus thérapeutique.
