Abstract
Книга Хезер Джейкобсон важное пополнение в небольшом пока ряду этнографий коммерческого суррогатного материнства. Автор фокусируется на американском рынке и предлагает читателю взглянуть на складывающиеся там отношения сквозь призму оплачиваемого труда. Эта перспектива позволяет исследовательнице выявить любопытное противоречие: изучаемый рынок существует и наращивает прибыль благодаря сокрытию затрачиваемых усилий и профессионализма суррогатных матерей и отвлечению общественного внимания от получаемого женщинами вознаграждения. Пересмотр сложившихся политик рынка, по мнению Джейкобсон, мог бы благотворно сказаться не только на восприятии суррогатного материнства, но и на общей оценке женского репродуктивного труда. Эмпирическую базу исследования составили результаты этнографического наблюдения и качественные интервью, взятые автором в 2009-2012 гг. в Техасе и Калифорнии, в анализе используются кросскультурные сравнения рынков суррогатного материнства.
