La implementacion del Tratado de Libre Comercio de America del Norte (TLCAN) en 1994 es resultado de una correlacion de factores politicos y economicos que se fraguaron en Mexico desde la decada de los anos 80, y que constituyeron parte de una herencia neoliberal. El costo que tuvo para el pais abrir las telecomunicaciones a particulares nacionales y extranjeros -sector que hasta aquel momento era exclusivo del Estado-, produjo una paulatina privatizacion que a lo largo de los anos genero fenomenos como la concentracion industrial, falta de pluralidad en contenidos, y en algunos casos, una severa crisis que amenazo la existencia de la propia industria mediatica. El presente libro documenta, analiza e interpreta, la situacion actual de la industria cultural y las telecomunicaciones a casi 20 anos de la firma del TLCAN. Se destaca la relacion entre convergencia digital e industria cinematografica, televisiva y de telecomunicaciones. Se establece un panorama de las relaciones dispares entre las industrias culturales de Mexico, Estados Unidos y Canada.
