Abstract
L’article propose une étude de la pratique du silence dans le processus de transmission et d’acquisition des faits relatifs au passé des Boni du Suriname en Guyane française, entre le début du XVIII e siècle et la première moitié du XX e . Dans la société boni, des enjeux politiques, sociaux, culturels et religieux, placés au service des rapports de force, peuvent se cacher derrière les silences et les oublis. Paradoxalement, ces mêmes silences peuvent contribuer « objectivement » à l’écriture de l’histoire-science de ce groupe socioculturel. L’étude s’attachera à l’aspect méthodologique mais révélera aussi une ambiguïté entre morale et savoir.
