Les mille et un visages d’Ottawa rassemble quelque 200 portraits d’Ottawa provenant de 78 createurs d’images, presentes thematiquement afin d’interroger notre conception du portrait Non plus simplement description exacte des caracteristiques physiques ou representation de la personnalite interieure d’une personne, un portrait contemporain peut par exemple offrir une description des relations d’un individu avec son environnement social ou politique, une etude des frontieres entre le specifique et l'archetype ou une investigation de l'equilibre delicat entre le theâtral et l’intime.
