Abstract
Cet article propose une analyse de la mutation du nationalisme québécois en abordant plus précisément l’évolution de la place symbolique qu’y occupe la Confédération canadienne de 1867. Entre le cinquantenaire (1917) et le centenaire (1967) du régime confédéral, les nationalistes canadiens-français cessèrent, dans une large mesure, de se représenter le Québec comme une société du Nord, héritière de l’Empire français d’Amérique et membre à part entière du monde atlantique. Dans l’imaginaire nationaliste des années 1960, le Québec s’apparentait davantage aux pays du Tiers-Monde en raison de sa soumission, depuis la Conquête de 1760, aux structures coloniales aliénantes de l’Empire britannique, puis de la Confédération canadienne.
