La parodie routière au Québec: l’exemple de <i>Vers l’est</i> de Mathieu Handfield

Abstract
Depuis le début des années 2000, le roman de la route est en vogue au Québec. Quelques parutions récentes démontrent en plus une sorte de surconscience générique, jouant allègrement des codes du genre à des fins de subversion parodique. Parmi eux Mathieu Handfield, qui offre avec Vers l’est (2009) un cas intéressant de récupération/détournement du roman de la cavale, variante du roman de la route dans laquelle le protagoniste doit fuir la justice après avoir commis un crime. Je propose dans cet article une analyse de cette œuvre tournée vers ce que Boris Tomachevski nomme la dénudation des procédés mécanisés. J’y aborde la façon dont la surconscience générique de l’auteur investit la dimension de l’intrigue, la construction des personnages, et les représentations de l’espace qui, par suite de brouillage référentiel, en viennent à suggérer les valeurs et représentations généralement imparties à l’ouest mythique.
