La presente ponencia presenta los resultados de la aplicación inicial de la unidad didáctica: “El Calentamiento Global y Yo” bajo el enfoque del aprendizaje basado en problemas desarrollada con estudiantes del grado 11-1 de la Institución Educativa Municipal Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Pasto, Colombia donde se pretende abordar la problemática socioambiental del calentamiento global. En la investigación se destaca el planteamiento de una situación problema para ser resuelta por los estudiantes que involucra la aplicación de saberes previos individuales y luego construcciones colectivas, que le permita realizar un acercamiento al fenómeno a partir del problema planteado ¿Qué acciones que desarrolla usted a diario considera que son las que más aportan al calentamiento global? El proyecto se desarrolló dentro del enfoque cualitativo que incluye la utilización de la observación participante, apoyada en la realización del diario de campo y de escenarios conversacionales que permitieron iniciar procesos reflexivos frente al fenómeno e identificar las acciones cotidianas que los estudiantes relacionan con el calentamiento global, además describir las explicaciones colectivas en cinco tendencias: alimentación, consumo de energía, transporte, desperdicio de agua y manejo de desechos. Al procesar la información obtenida se encontraron dos categorías de acciones: las naturales y las artificiales, con respecto a sus explicaciones iniciales se construyeron tres niveles: explicación cotidiana, explicación científica parcial y un tercer nivel sin explicación.
