three-quarter length standing in living room wearing striped shirt and slacks -- three-quarter length to right seated with legs cross clasping knees -- half-length full face seated showing tattooed number on left forearm.alex blank was born in warsaw poland in 1923. he was in the warsaw ghetto in 1940 and although escaping in 1941 he was selected for sobibor extermination camp at the end of 1941 he escaped from the train. he was captured and escaped again. in 1942 he was selected for majdanek then auschwitz-birkenau. in a forced labour camp in the coal mines of jawozno in 1943 he and another man escaped to a forest from a death march where he met english pows and was taken to their camp in english pow uniform he and the camp were liberated by the russians in 1945. mr blank came to australia in 1949. he married in 1951.
