Abstract
A 15-year-old girl presented with a 1-day history of a pruritic rash on the neck and left upper chest. The patient was otherwise healthy, had no recent sick contact and was not on any medication. There was no personal or family history of a similar rash or atopic dermatitis. On examination, there were multiple, erythematous papules on the neck and left upper chest (Figure 1). Some lesions were grouped in a linear distribution. The rest of the physical examination was unremarkable. The patient had recently stayed in a hostel and brought in several insects that she found along the seams in the mattress. Dermatoscopy of one of the insects showed that it was a bed bug (Figure 2), confirming the diagnosis of bed bug bites. Bed bugs are obligate hematophagous ectoparasites that belong to the family Cimicidae and the genus Cimex (1,2). Cimex lectularius and Cimex hemipterus are the two species that feed primarily on humans (3).
