Les théories en sciences humaines et sociales sur l’imagination méconnaissent l’inconscient et la psychanalyse n’a jamais fait de l’imagination une catégorie métapsychologique. Le débat n’a donc pas eu lieu sur une notion pourtant fondamentale. Castoriadis a ouvert une brèche en donnant à l’imagination une place essentielle dans les processus de création sans toutefois lui conférer un statut scientifique. Nous souhaiterions donc, à la suite de Castoriadis, militer pour une entrée en scène de l’imagination dans une métapsychologie contemporaine élargie : en quoi cette notion est-elle nécessaire ? Qu’apporte-t-elle à une écoute renouvelée de la vie psychique ? Son invention nous permet-elle vraiment de découvrir de nouvelles Amériques du monde fantasmatique ?
