Cet article interroge le rôle des espaces périphériques dans la mise en œuvre d’un développement urbain durable à l’échelle régionale. Grâce à une analyse statistique des données de mobilité individuelle quotidienne de la région urbaine de Grenoble (France), nous montrons comment les déplacements des habitants motivés par les activités de travail, d’achat et de loisir, révèlent une hiérarchie urbaine régionale polycentrique. Nos résultats permettent d’identifier des centralités dans les espaces périphériques et de dresser une typologie caractérisant leurs fonctions relativement aux motifs de déplacements. Cette typologie nous permet de discuter l’intérêt d’une analyse à cette échelle pour identifier les complémentarités potentielles à développer entre les différents pôles.
