Abstract
Les chiffres en témoignent, le développement et la structuration des arts du cirque en France ont de quoi faire pâlir tous ses voisins, proches ou lointains : un nombre élevé de compagnies, de créations de spectacles, de festivals ; 14 institutions dédiées à la production et à la diffusion, le plus ancien centre de ressources, des écoles à la renommée internationale, un syndicat spécifique ; une politique culturelle et des financements publics fléchés. Cet article s’emploie à montrer que la France, considérée depuis trois décennies comme l’épicentre du cirque contemporain, n’est plus seule au monde. Il faut en effet compter avec l’influence grandissante depuis plusieurs années d’artistes, de structures et de festivals dans toutes les régions de la planète, bien au-delà du continent européen (Éthiopie, Chine, Taiwan, Japon, Mexique, Argentine…).
