Abstract
Quiconque juge évalue ; à ce titre, l'évaluation est universelle. Mais cette activité humaine peut être plus ou moins formalisée, et des stratégies peuvent être adoptées pour en augmenter la validité. Dans la pratique, la rigueur méthodologique autant que la réponse aux besoins réels des organismes demandeurs et le souci constant de l'utilisation de l'information produite sont les meilleurs garants d'une évaluation réussie. Exhaustif et pragmatique, cet ouvrage présente le modèle d'évaluation qui s'élabore depuis 20 ans autour du cours « Méthodes d'évaluation » du secteur de la santé publique de l'Université de Montréal. Si la plupart des exemples utilisés sont issus du domaine de la santé, le modèle proposé s'applique à l'étude des interventions de tous les secteurs, comme l'éducation, l'administration ou les sciences politiques. Ce manuel permettra aux étudiants, aux chercheurs et aux professionnels qui ont recours à l'évaluation de mieux définir les interventions soumises à leur expertise, et de choisir les approches et les questions les mieux adaptées à chaque contexte.
