Abstract
C'est le premier ouvrage en français qui aborde de façon systématique, intelligente et rigoureuse la part irlandaise de l'identité québécoise. Simon Jolivet nous révèle une histoire jalonnée de rapports de solidarité et d'espoir, mais aussi d'occasions manquées. Linda Cardinal, Université d'Ottawa Ce livre explore de façon remarquable la parenté qui existe entre les catholiques irlandais et canadiens-français. Malgré l'hostilité que se vouaient leurs voisins ontariens à cause du Règlement XVII sur le français comme langue d'enseignement, les deux groupes ont soutenu les mêmes politiques durant la Première Guerre mondiale, ainsi que dans la lutte pour l'autonomie irlandaise au début des années 1920. Il s'agit d'une contribution majeure à l'histoire des Irlandais au Canada et à l'historiographie québécoise.
