Abstract
Cet article rend compte de travaux réalisés dans le cadre de mon mémoire de maitrise. Mes recherches avaient pour premier objectif d’analyser les facteurs qui ont mené à la « barbarisation » d’Ivan, nom générique désignant le soldat soviétique moyen, au cours de la Grande Guerre Patriotique. Mon étude fait la lumière sur les conditions physiques et psychologiques dans lesquelles Ivan a évolué, dans le but d’évaluer comment il fut « brutalisé » par son expérience au front et de juger du rôle joué par l’idéologie du régime dans ce processus. L’analyse d’un corpus de 175 lettres envoyées par des soldats à leurs familles, trouvées dans des recueils publiés et dans des collections d’archives, a permis de mieux cerner les différentes attitudes populaires adoptées par rapport au régime stalinien pendant la guerre.
