À partir d’une expérimentation réalisée dans l’industrie automobile, cet article vise à contribuer à la réflexion dans le domaine de la clinique du travail sur la manière d’instruire les questions de santé au travail au centre du débat social et public sur les rapports entre qualité du travail et qualité de la vie. Après avoir précisé la fonction de l’action d’intervention pour « restaurer » le pouvoir d’agir des travailleurs, nous cherchons à montrer comment peut s’organiser, entre ces travailleurs et leurs hiérarchies, la reprise du travail d’organisation pour un travail soigné. À partir de l’exemple mobilisé, nous argumentons pour une pratique de la psychologie du travail où l’action vise l’institution d’un professionnalisme délibéré, par l’expérimentation de nouvelles activités et fonctions qui permettent de tester une coopération conflictuelle autour des critères de qualité du travail entre dirigeants, ligne hiérarchique, opérateurs et organisations syndicales. Et ce, afin de relier la santé des travailleurs, la performance de leurs activités et la qualité des produits fabriqués ou des services rendus.
