This paper investigates the relationship between synchronous switching and circulating current for two parallel connected DC-DC boost converters. The investigation is based on having different size of the converters. For different converter sizes, the differences in the time delays in the control loops cause asynchronous switching of the parallel-connected DC-DC boost converters which leads to undesirable circulating current. An optimized controller for the converters is proposed in the paper to minimize the circulating current. The optimized controller provides a synchronous duty ratio input to the parallel-connected DC-DC boost converters. The investigation and effectiveness of the optimized controller are verified using MATLAB simulation.
