El pensamiento dominante nos conduce a aceptar como imposible una economía sin crecimiento. La única vía para lograr el desarrollo pasaría por el crecimiento económico. Esto demanda cada vez mayores volúmenes de recursos naturales que sostengan la creciente demanda mundial. Al mismo tiempo ese esfuerzo aseguraría los ingresos para que el Sur global supere su «subdesarrollo». La realidad, sin embargo, nos dice que superar esas visiones es la gran tarea del momento. El resto demanda superar «la religión del crecimiento económico», dando paso a respuestas que nos saquen también de la trampa del extractivismo. Y, por cierto, también debemos transitar hacia una sociedad no capitalista, que puede inspirarse en las visiones, valores, experiencias y prácticas de las diversas formas de «Buen Vivir» de los diversos pueblos indígenas del planeta.
