Ce texte porte sur une expérience de plus de trente-cinq ans en tant que psychologue en cabinet privé. Mon regard est ici dirigé vers des personnes ayant manifesté, en clinique, le désir de se tuer. Je relate aussi le cas d’un patient qui a réalisé un passage à l’acte. J’y témoigne d’une série de vécus différents autour de l’idéation suicidaire, du suicide et de la mort. J’insiste sur la nécessité, en psychothérapie, d’entrevoir ce lieu comme étant un espace privilégié pour aborder, en profondeur, les intentions de se donner la mort d’une personne en grande souffrance. Je pense être capable d’affirmer que la communication de sa souffrance est l’élément-clé d’une possible compréhension de celle-ci. Bien que l’on puisse faire certains recoupements entre les personnes qui disent vouloir se tuer ou d’autres qui posent le geste, on ne peut généraliser car nous sommes tous des cas d’exception.
