Dans une époque où l’anonymat est de mise mais où son application au genre référentiel risque de nuire à l’entreprise, la mise en scène utilisée par Pierre-Jean Grosley dans la relation de son voyage en Italie pose question. Pourquoi un homme de lettres connu et respecté irait-il se dissimuler derrière le masque de deux voyageurs suédois ? L’étude de la réception de son récit dans la presse apporte des éléments de réponse qui sont ici confrontés aux pratiques auctoriales de Grosley dans l’ensemble de sa carrière.
