Cet article retrace l’évolution chronologique des confréries de dévotion de Montpellier de la fin du xiie siècle à la fin du xve siècle, en comparant la situation montpelliéraine à celle d’autres villes méridionales. Y sont examinés les rapports entre confréries de dévotion et charités de métiers, ainsi que l’attractivité des confréries et le rôle qu’elles jouaient dans la vie religieuse locale. Les sources sur lesquelles s’appuie la recherche sont principalement testamentaires.
