Abstract
Le spectacle musical touristique, loin de constituer un patrimoine édulcoré et inauthentique, participe à la construction identitaire d’un peuple ; cet article tente de le démontrer en se basant sur la pratique touristique à la Martinique. Cette île des Caraïbes est, depuis 1946, un département français d’outre-mer. Si ses habitants sont Français de plein droit, la mémoire historique des citoyens de descendance africaine porte en elle une blessure émanant de la période esclavagiste. Cette blessure dont la trace demeure tangible se révèle dans certains spectacles musicaux. Les musiques touristiques s’ancrent bien souvent en effet dans une certaine stigmatisation de l’ethnicité, tout en favorisant l’édification de revendications identitaires contemporaines et en procurant aux chorégraphes une occasion exceptionnelle de se mettre en valeur. Décrié par certains locaux, recherché par d’autres, le spectacle touristique se retrouve ainsi à la croisée de la construction d’un patrimoine musical collectif et de la mise en valeur de signatures artistiques singulières.
