Abstract
Par la participation observante durant plusieurs années de ce qui se dit et se fait dans des cours de yoga, cet article montre les rapports sociaux construits par des femmes de différentes classes sociales qui pratiquent une même activité, mais ne partagent pas les mêmes valeurs. Examiner comment égalité et coopération sont mobilisées dans les manières d’être d’élèves yogis permet de montrer que ces valeurs restent au coeur des cultures populaires et de distinguer deux groupes : les mutualistes, héritières de ces cultures, qui assument leurs origines sociales, et les compétitrices, individualistes, qui plagient les catégories supérieures. La transmission des éthos de classe n’opère pas systématiquement terme à terme.
