La marche La rue, la nuit, femmes sans peur s’inscrit dans deux dynamiques du mouvement féministe occidental renaissant dans les années 1970, soit celle de la mise en place de nouvelles stratégies d’action politique et celle de la dénonciation des violences sexuelles faites aux femmes. Cette marche revêt aussi un aspect original par son caractère international qui s’est développé rapidement grâce entre autres à l’essor des réseaux féministes radicaux américains et européens. Le présent article relatera les origines de ces marches, particulièrement aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Allemagne, en Angleterre et en France, en tentant de découvrir l’origine de la première marche. À partir d’un travail dans les archives canadiennes surtout pour la période 1980-1990, certains des aspects de la marche, tels que le symbolisme de la réappropriation de la nuit par les femmes, la solidarité entre les femmes du monde entier et la célébration de la force des femmes, seront mis en relief.
