Abstract
La présente synthèse a été produite à partir de vingt-deux des quarante-quatre articles \ntraitant de la rétention des médecins en milieu rural ou en région éloignée que nous avons \nrepérés dans la littérature et qui ont été publiés au cours des dix dernières années en \nAustralie, au Canada et aux États-Unis. Les articles sélectionnés l'ont été, soit parce qu'ils \nconstituaient eux-mêmes des synthèses récentes sur la question, soit parce qu'ils étaient \nsouvent cités, soit encore parce qu'ils utilisaient une méthodologie qualitative ou en \ndéfendaient la pertinence pour l'étude des conditions de la rétention des médecins. \nEssentiellement, deux aspects sont traités dans ce texte : ce que révèlent les études sur la \nrétention· des médecins en milieu rural (Australie, États-Unis et Canada) et l'intérêt de la \nnotion d'intégration pour en déterminer les facteurs et comprendre les circonstances. Mais il \nimporte d'abord de situer la question de la rétention dans le contexte des études touchant \nau problème de la répartition territoriale des médecins en régions rurales ou éloignées.
